Texas Rangers, feds search Lubbock Co. M.E.'s Office

Posted: Updated:
LUBBOCK, Texas -

Federal agents searched the Lubbock County Medical Examiner's Office Monday afternoon and evening. We don't yet know exactly why.

The Justice Department led the search. The Texas Rangers were assisting and referred all questions to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

District Attorney Sunshine Stanek asked the Rangers to investigate the office in February. The Attorney General's Office joined shortly after. We learned in May the FBI was also involved.

NAAG Pathology Labs is the company running the M.E.'s Office and is based in San Diego. It's been under intense scrutiny, and civil lawsuits, since the contract started last October.

The Lubbock County Medical Examiner's Office is reportedly being searched by the Texas Rangers and other law enforcement agencies, including the U.S. Department of Justice. The ME's Office has been under investigation since late March.

Both the county and company have announced no intention of renewing the contract when it expires in a week.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
