A Ruidoso law officer is now on the other side of the law, accused of soliciting a child online.

The New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau arrested Ruidoso Police Officer Daniel Balding, 35, on a count of child solicitation by electronic communication device. The NM State Police issued an e-mail release on the matter Friday night. The arrest was made Sept. 12.

Homeland Security Investigations contacted NM State Police, alerting them a Homeland Security agent in Minnesota was posing as a 15-year-old girl on the Whisper app. Investigators say Balding made contact with who he thought was the girl, exchanged photos and had a sexually explicit conversation on Sept. 12.

Balding was released on his own recognizance by a judge.
