LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech is set for its last non-conference game of the season Saturday, which comes in the form of a trip to Tampa to face-off with No. 22 South Florida. It will be the first game against a ranked opponent for the Red Raiders this season.
Big 12 on the horizon, but a big non-conference test stands in the way... We’re up for it.
"We consider this by far the toughest game on our non-conference schedule," said head coach Tom Stone. "This is a team that can beat anybody. They're a very well organized team and a bear to play at home. We know what we're up against, and we're here to go down there and challenge ourselves."
Sitting at 5-1, the Bulls will be a much needed challenge for a young Tech team before the grind of Big 12 play begins next weekend.
"We're really excited to play a team that's ranked," said forward Kirsten Davis, who helped Tech knock off a program-record four ranked teams last season. "I think it's going to show us what we have coming for us in the Big 12. They're a good team, and it's going to prepare us heading into conference play at home."
Davis has been the catalyst for an exciting Red Raider offense this season. The St. Louis, Mo., native has scored nine goals and dished out five assists in eight games, putting her at the top of the conference in points with 23 points. She has had three five-point games so far this season. Last weekend, her three goals and one assist were enough to finally garner her the title of Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week. It is the first time she has received a weekly award from the conference.
