LUBBOCK, Texas -

A man from Lubbock will spend decades in prison for being a felon with a gun.

A Lubbock jury sentenced Thomas Ray Caudill to 99 years after he gave an open plea. The sentencing range available for this crime is five to 99 years, or life in prison.

Caudill has other cases pending, including a charge of aggravated assault on a public servant.

Police arrested Caudill about two years ago, after a short chase. Court records show he sped away from officers after a report of a domestic disturbance. Investigators say he fired several times at the pursuing officers, before stalling out near 78th Street and Flint Avenue.

Inside Caudill's vehicle, police report finding a shotgun. There was also a woman and her two children riding in the car.
