HOBBS, New Mexico -

A two-year-old died Tuesday after being left in a hot car for hours in Hobbs, the 42nd death like this in the nation this year. Police have now arrested the woman who was caring for her.

According to Hobbs Police, Tammy Brooks, 41, was caring for the child. Brooks was supposed to drop the child off at daycare. Instead, she went to work.

Investigators say Brooks only realized the baby was still in the car after running an errand.

Brooks is charged with abandonment or abuse of a child resulting in a death, a first-degree felony. She is held in the Hobbs City Jail.
