Suicidal man shot, killed in Plainview after pointing handgun at police

PLAINVIEW, Texas -

A man threatening suicide was shot and killed Saturday morning after pointing his handgun at Plainveiw police. 

Police responded to reports of three shots fired near West 11th and Oakland St. where officers found Jose Orona threatening suicide. 

Plainview SWAT, DPS, the Lubbock County Sheriff's Office and Plainview Police Crisis negotiators were called to assist. During the standoff, 

Police report after more than an hour, Orona aimed his gun at police and three rounds were fired - one by Orona and two by officers. Orona was shot and killed by a SWAT sniper and first officer on scene. 

Two officers are currently on administrative leave.
