Texas Tech Arizona

Texas Tech falls to Arizona 28-14

Posted: Updated:

Matt Wells came up short in his first road game as head coach of Texas Tech.

Both teams were top 10 in the nation in scoring last year, but defense was the story of the first quarter. Tech and Arizona combined for four turnovers in the first fifteen minutes, and the Red Raiders led 7-0 after the first.

The Wildcats dominated the second, outscoring Tech 13-0. Doug Coleman tallied his second interception of the half, and while TTU had three turnovers in the first two quarters they trailed 13-7 at the break.

The first drive of the second half consisted of a scary moment for the Red Raiders QB. Alan Bowman got knocked down hard on a 3rd and 10 and was immediately evaluated by the Texas Tech medical staff for what appeared to be a left shoulder injury.

He returned for their next drive and WR McLane Mannix took over the offense. On the drive, he had 2 catches for 74 yards and a touchdown to give the Red Raiders a 14-13 lead.

Wildcats RB Gary Brightwell had 2 fourth quarter TDs to give Arizona the lead and win 28-14. Tech has a bye next before taking on Oklahoma in Norman on September 28.
