Four local members elected to Electric Cooperative Board

LUBBOCK, TX – Joe McFerrin was elected to fill the District 1 seat on the South Plains Electric Cooperative Board of Directors at the Annual Meeting of Membership on Tuesday, September 10 at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center. The vacancy was created when current board member, Tommy Joines of Cotton Center, announced his retirement after 39 years of service to the membership. Incumbents Danny Stanton from District 2, Benny Nixon from District 8 and Scott Martin from District 10 were all re-elected.

Joe McFerrin, a farmer from Cotton Center, received his education from Texas Tech University. He has farmed for 50 years. He is a member of First Baptist Church Cotton Center. McFerrin has three children, Shelley, John David and Jeremy, and seven grandchildren. Joe currently serves on the Hale County Stock Show Board and is on the board of trustees at Wayland Baptist University. He is also a member of the Cotton Center Lion’s Club and a former board member for Cotton Center ISD.

Tommy Joines retired from the Cooperative Board with 39 years of service. He served as president of the SPEC board for 34 years. He also served on the Golden Spread Electric Cooperative Board for 34 years.

Stanton, from Shallowater, has served the Cooperative for 30 years. Nixon, from Lubbock has served on the Board for 34 years. Martin, from Spur has served on the Board for three years.
