Hot and dry this weekend, cooler with rain next week

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Another hot one today with a mixture of sunshine and some clouds. High near 94 and a light southerly wind 5-12mph.

A lot of people will be outside this evening for First Friday Art Trail and Friday High School Football. Temperatures will be hot until the sunsets at 8:06p, then dropping in the 80s.

Tech Football Saturday: If you plan on tailgating and enjoying the game it will be very hot again. Thankfully kickoff is 7pm and the sunsets at 8:05pm, so temperatures will be dropping during game play.

EXTENDED: The ridge of high pressure that has brought these hot and dry conditions will be moving into the southeastern US going into next week. Gulf and Pacific moisture increases with a couple of upper level system to provide lift for the moisture. The chance for rain increases starting late Sunday towards the TX/NM border. Then these chances slowly push east into mid-week giving much of our area a chance for showers and storms. Possible heavy down pours possible which is good because we need some rain. Temperatures will drop off too with the cloud cover and rain.

Have a great Friday and GO TECH!! Matt with the next updated forecast tonight on the News at Nine, then FOX34 Football Friday starts at 10.
