Lubbock superheroes encourage Shallowater Intermediate students to be role models

Heroes face many challenges, but they never quit fighting. That's the message students heard at Shallowater Intermediate Thursday afternoon.

It's part of Communities in Schools of the South Plains' 21st Century Afterschool Centers on Education program. It's mission is is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.

Batman and Catwoman spoke with students about the challenges they face, by turning those challenges into opportunities for success.

The heroes encouraged students to show leadership within their school and be a role model to others.

"I think that it's just exciting for them to have someone like that, someone like Batman and Catwoman come and speak to them about something they might not see as important, but having a role model see education and not being a bully and being kind humans. That's important to them so it should be important to the students," Danielle Uranga, with Communities in Schools, said.

Communities in Schools server 15 school districts on 68 campuses across the South Plains.
