Lubbock-Cooper opens its 83rd season of football and first under Head Coach Chip Darden, when the Pirates host Andrews at 7 p.m. Friday night at Pirate Stadium.

The Pirates will be facing the Mustangs for the fifth time in program history. LCP won the very first meeting back in 2010, 34-28 in triple overtime. That contest was a playoff game which sent Lubbock-Cooper to the third round. The next two matchups were district games as the Mustangs won 21-20 in Woodrow. The following year, in 2013, Lubbock-Cooper won in Andrews 46-21. Last years game, another wild and crazy game in the series, the Pirates topped the Mustangs 52-50 with a game winning field goal by Junior kicker Brock Thompson.

Scouting Andrews:

The Mustangs have won 8 out of the last 9 season opening games. Last year, Andrews finished the season 8-4, 2-1 in district 2-4A DI advancing to the Area round of the playoffs. Andrews is lead by 8th year head coach Ralph Mason. Since Mason’s arrival, the Mustangs have posted a 61-24 record, including a 11-2 mark in 2016 that represented the most wins in school history since 1993. Prior to Andrews, Ralph Mason served as the offensive coordinator for 16 seasons at Muleshoe.
