Hotter next couple of days, low storm chances this weekend

LUBBOCK, Texas -

TODAY: Drier with more sunshine and a light southerly wind will help temperatures warm 5-15 degrees hotter than yesterday across the area. High for Lubbock will be near 95 which will be above average. A few isolated showers or storms can't be ruled out later today into the evening, but not expecting much in coverage or precipitation.

TONIGHT: Mostly clear with the low near 71.

FRIDAY: Another hot one with the high nearing 96. Starting off sunny then clouds expected to increase by nightfall. Some isolated showers and storms will be possible around our area, but chances are not looking promising.

LABOR DAY WEEKEND: If you are going to be in town this weekend temperatures do drop off some with highs in the lower 90s. Partly sunny with possible storms late Saturday, again not a good chance for our area. This is due to the ridge of high pressure system to our west that will likely keep us dry. We will be under a northerly flow and this will help or temperatures stay hot, just not as hot as today or Friday.

HURRICANE DORIAN: Currently category 1 Hurricane Dorian is pushing northwest in some warm Atlantic waters. This storm will continue this path and likely strengthening into a major hurricane before making landfall early Monday. Landfall looks to be somewhere along the eastern coastal line of Florida.

Have a great Thursday! Matt with the next updated forecast tonight on the News at Nine.
-Bobby
