Showers, storms in the area tonight; cool again Wednesday

THIS AFTERNOON: What a difference a day makes. It reached 109 yesterday in Lubbock, several communities topped 110. Today it's been in the 70s and low 80s with plenty of clouds. There have been a few sprinkles around and now, late afternoon, we're starting to see a few storms. Here is FOX34 VIPIR:

TONIGHT: We expect the number of showers and storms to increase. It probably won't cover all of the area, but this is the best rain chance we've seen here in several weeks. It's a good chance for showers and storms tonight through tomorrow morning. Low near 66.

TOMORROW: The rain chance will drop off through the day. It'll be another relatively "cool" day, high near 83, mostly cloudy. Wind E/S 5-15mph.

HOTTER DAYS RETURN: We aren't looking at extreme heat returning, but the high temperature will climb above the seasonal average starting Thursday. There is a slight chance for a shower or storm Friday night, hopefully after the football games.

For the weekend, both days will be warm. Slight chance for a shower or storm Saturday afternoon.

TEXAS TECH GAME DAY: While it won't be the brutal heat of yesterday, it is going to be hot Saturday. For the 3 p.m. kick, sitting in the sunlight, it could get to you pretty quickly. From about 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. it should be in the 90s. The field itself will be much hotter. There is also a low chance for a storm through the afternoon and evening.

NEXT WEEK: It looks pretty warm, with the high in the low 90s through mid-week.

Have a great rest of your day. I hope you pick up some rain tonight. Bobby will have an updated check on all this early tomorrow morning.
