SPC offers Certified Nurse Aide training starting Sept. 3

LEVELLAND – South Plains College will offer Certified Nurse Aide training starting Sept. 3 through Oct. 5 in Room 117 in the Technical Arts Building. Enrollment is limited to 10 students.

Tuition costs $500. The textbook to be used is “Skills and Techniques for the New Nursing Assistant, 8th Edition by Barbara Gillogly. Students also will be responsible for the State Exam Fee $104.50. The instructor will be Kim Hill, R.N.

The instruction in this course provides detailed education, training and work-based experience as well as direct patient/client care, generally at a clinical site. Specific detailed learning objectives are developed for each course by the faculty. On-site clinical instruction, supervision, evaluation and placement is the responsibility of the college faculty.

The classroom schedule is from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. throughout the five week course. Class meeting days are Sept. 3-6 for the first week (16 hours); Sept. 10-12 for the second week (12 hours); Sept. 17-19 for the third week (12 hours); Sept. 24-26 for week four (12 hours); and Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 for week five (eight hours).

Clinical experiences are unpaid external learning experiences. Students will learn the necessary skills to work in long-term care, home health or hospital environments. Upon completion of the 60 hours of classroom and 40 hours of clinicals, each student will be required to take the State of Texas Certified Nurse Aide Competency Examination.

Clinical Instruction will be performed at the Levelland Nursing Home for eight hours weekly on Sept. 7; Sept. 8; Sept. 21; Sept. 22; and Oct. 5.
