US Attorney General promotes Project Safe Neighborhoods

LUBBOCK, Texas -

The Department of Justice has dedicated more than $700,000 to help communities fight crime in Texas.

Attorney General William Barr promoted "Project Safe Neighborhoods" in Dallas Wednesday. It's a targeted effort to reduce crime in particular parts of metro areas.

Lubbock has a PSN designated zone located in central Lubbock.

Barr said public private partnerships with support organizations is the only way to truly fight violent crime.

"Nationwide over the past 30 years violent crime has been cut in half, but recently we're seeing some increases in some of our major cities and so I'm committed to applying this approach and trying to expand our efforts in Project Safe Neighborhood," he said.

Both Dallas and Amarillo currently have Project Safe Neighborhoods. In just six months, crime in the Amarillo hot spot went down 5%.
