LUBBOCK, Texas -

To keep the revitalization of downtown, the Lubbock Economic Development Alliance gave 16 grants to invest in the depot. Two of those are on the East side.

President and CEO of LEDA John Osborne said it's to keep businesses downtown while attracting new ones to open. He hopes to the grant program also attracts young professionals to want to work and live in Lubbock.

"One of their big primary concerns is about a thriving downtown," he said. "We felt like a grant program that was designed to stop the spiraling downward of a downtown was what our community needed and and it's working. Businesses and property owners are investing in downtown there's more interest in coming downtown and also on the east side of Lubbock now."

The grant is available to any property of business owner in the downtown district that is current on their taxes.
