Slight chance for storms next few days, hotter weekend

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Another hot afternoon with temperatures ranging from the mid 90s to low 100s. The hotter temperatures will be in the Rolling Plains, cooler to our northwestern counties. High for Lubbock near 97, southerly wind will be light 5-15mph.

TONIGHT: As we get into the evening there will be a chance for some isolated showers and storms developing mainly to our north and northwestern counties. This activity might continue into the early parts of the morning. Partly cloudy with the low near 70.

THURSDAY: A weak front will moving into the Panhandle then stalling out around the area. This might help to initiate some more isolated storms through tomorrow. Not everyone will get rain, but the chances are better than the last few days. Cloud cover will help to drop highs a few degrees nearing 94.

EXTENDED: The low chance for rain will diminish through the weekend then temperatures really climb back upwards. Sunday and Monday looks to be the hottest with possible near or above records high temperatures again.

Good news into later next week, models are showing a stronger front pushing in our area. Highs look to drop below average with possible highs in the 80s... yay! There also could be a better chance for rain with this system too. We will keep you updated on this as many changes could happen before then.

Matt with the next updated forecast tonight on the News at Nine.
