United Family donates soccer balls to Boys & Girls Club for new fall program

LUBBOCK, Texas -

The Boys & Girls Club of Lubbock will launch a new program this fall with nearly 100 new soccer balls from the United Family.

The club provides a safe place and ministry for kids and teens after school and during the summer. Soccer's ideal for its programs because it doesn't require very much to play.

"When you look at some of the other sports you have to have equipment and all sorts of different types of things to do that with, so soccer's a really good game -- and to be honest with you, it's one that's played all over the world, so we think it's a great opportunity for our kids to learn how to do that," Tom Vermillion, Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Club, said.

United's donated more than 700 soccer balls for other programs in New Mexico, the Panhandle, the Permian Basin and the Metroplex.

The Boys & Girls Club is one of the United Way's 23 partner agencies in West Texas.
