A body discovered late Thursday night north of Lubbock has been identified as 79-year-old Celestino Rodriguez of Slaton.

According to Lubbock Police, investigators found Rodriguez in a field northwest of Abernathy, near County Road 315 and County Road K.

Rodriguez was reported missing Aug. 3. Two days later, a Silver Alert was issued. Lubbock's Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit and the Texas Rangers have since joined the case.

Multiple arrests were made this week in connection to his disappearance, and new documents revealed what may have happened. Police say the victim may have been beaten when his car was stolen.

David Hampton, 54, was arrested in Abilene Thursday afternoon. Brett Garza, 33, was arrested after he was tracked to a house in Lubbock Wednesday night. They are both charged with debit card abuse of an elderly person, each held on $75,000 bond. Investigators say they used Rodriguez's card several times, totaling more than $1,000.

Toby Daughtry, 39, was arrested northeast of Austin Wednesday. Police say he told them he ditched Rodriguez's car when he saw a Silver Alert for it. A warrant shows he told a witness he got a car in his back yard from Hampton.

A warrant shows Daughtry told a witness he worked with Amanda Blagburn, 33, to get rid of the car, then told police Blagburn wiped the card down to get rid of fingerprints.
