Two Amherst sisters killed in crash on US 84; multiple other people injured

HOCKLEY COUNTY, Texas -

Two sisters from Amherst were killed in a head-on crash on U.S. 84 northwest of Lubbock Wednesday night. Two other sisters were among several others injured.

Troopers report Jasmine Nicole Burman of San Angelo, 28, was driving an SUV the wrong way, going southeast in the northwest lanes near mile marker 294. Her vehicle crashed into a car driven by Wendy Elle Payne of Amherst, 18. She died at the scene. Her 16-year-old sister was airlifted to a Lubbock hospital, where she died. Two other younger sisters were injured, one of them seriously, according to the DPS.

A third vehicle, towing a utility trailer, rear-ended the Paynes' vehicle after the initial crash.

Burman is in a Lubbock hospital with serious injuries. There were also four children in Burman's vehicle, three of them also have serious injuries.
