Covenant to open new hospital in Hobbs

News release from Covenant Health:

Thursday, Covenant Health announced plans to construct a smart-sized hospital in Hobbs, New Mexico.

The hospital will be around roughly 105,000 square feet, have about 32 inpatient beds and will house an Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, Operating Room and Labor & Delivery Center, among other specialties. It will also include a Community Center where community health education classes and events can be held.

The Economic Development Corporation of Lea County calls the addition "instrumental in the continued growth and vitality of the Hobbs community."

Covenant Health is making a $75 million investment into the community by building  a hospital that will not only bring new jobs to Hobbs, but will provide convenient access to health care to people who would otherwise have to travel for care.

The Covenant Health Foundation, along with Nor-Lea Hospital District, is also currently providing $25,000 in scholarships to students at New Mexico Junior College. The hope is that students will complete their education locally and find work at the new hospital. More scholarships will be offered in the future for nursing and other allied health positions.
