Community Foundation of West Texas grants thousands to South Plains educators

LUBBOCK, Texas -

$42,000 in mini-grants is being awarded to 51 teachers across the South Plains.

It's an ongoing commitment from the Community Foundation of West Texas. Since 1998 it has provided nearly $500,000 to teachers.

One of the grant recipients, Allison Sell, is an elementary music teacher in Plainview. She says this grant will go to getting new instruments, which will provided a unique opportunity for her students.

"It's not in our school budget to get instruments like ukeleles, and so this just shows them that they are worth it, it shows them that they are valuable," Sell said. She adds that these mini-grants show that building the future of West Texas continues to be a top priority.

"It just makes the students and even me, as a teacher, feel valued. So I'm just really grateful for all the community members and businesses that put into it are investing in the young people of the area."

The projects funded by these grants will be implemented this upcoming school year.
