One-vehicle wreck in Panhandle kills 14-year-old driver, injures two teen passengers

A 14-year-old driver was killed and two 14-year-old passengers injured in a one-vehicle wreck early Saturday morning in the Panhandle.

According to the DPS, a 14-year-old girl was driving a pick-up on US 287 just south of Clarendon. She drove into the center median and lost control. The truck went airborne before crashing into a tree. Investigators believe she was speeding.

The driver died at the scene. According to the DPS, she was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected.

One of the passengers was wearing a seat belt and is being treated for injuries in Amarillo; she is expected to make it.

Investigators do not know if the second passenger was wearing a seat belt; she was partially ejected. The second passenger is in critical condition at an Amarillo hospital.
