LUBBOCK, Texas -

Lubbock Preston Smith International will receive a federal grant of $8,767,282 to improve the terminal building.

According to a news release from Senator Cornyn's office, $3.1 million will be issued this fiscal year, the balance will come through the next two years.

"Texas' population grows with each passing day, and as more people travel in and out of our state, it's important our infrastructure is able to meet the demand without interfering with Texans’ quality of life," Senator Cornyn said in the release. "I'm proud that President Trump has made Lubbock a priority, and I look forward to seeing the impact this grant will have on our great state."

Last year a federal grant of $7,272,276 was awarded to the Lubbock airport.
