Covenant launches new Telesitter Technology, ensures extra safety for high-risk patients

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Covenant Medical Center is rolling out a new technology to ensure an extra level of safety for its high-risk patients.

The Telesitter Program allows the hospital to use cameras in some patients rooms so busy nurses can more easily have eyes and ears on those who may need it most.

Staff and Telecenter watch the cameras and can tell a nurse if someone needs immediate attention.

"Knowing that there's someone in the room monitoring your high-risk patient for whatever reason gives you a lot of peace of mind, that if you're in another room of if you're at the desk catching up on charting, someone has eyes on that patients so they're nice and safe," Registered Nurse Laura Martinkewiz said.

It focuses on patients who could suffer from falls, pulling IV lines, being confused or someone trying to get out of their bed.

The Telesitter can also talk to patients through the devices, which can help them stay relaxed and comfortable.
