LPD announces Justice as certified therapy dog

LUBBOCK, Texas -

The Lubbock Police Department is celebrating its newest member getting certified.

Justice is now a certified therapy dog teaming up with other agencies in the community to provide therapy services. Justice will visit hospitals, nursing homes, and schools to provide affection and support.

"It releases endorphins for people that like dogs, studies show. So there's a psychological affect. And it's just that. Just for the few minutes of being able to relax and just being to enjoy the dog and pet a dog is basically what it comes down to," Sgt. Steven Bergen said.

It was no easy task. Justice had to pass multiples tests and go through extensive training to be certified through the Alliance of Therapy Dogs.
