Whataburger donates $1K to the South Plains Food Bank's GRUB Program

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Whataburger provided $1,000 to help rebuild the South Plains Food Bank's GRUB Farm to help in its fight against food insecurity.

The crops suffered hail damage from the recent storms in the South Plains. The money will go toward providing a fall harvest instead of its usual summer one.

The GRUB Farm provides produce to the food bank's stocks and lets volunteers learn a little bit of food production.

"We try to equip them with as much as we can, every skill we can think of that we can throw at them so that they leave our program ready to face the world, ready to be good citizens and hopefully then they'll be giving back to Lubbock," Jenifer Smith, Director of the Farm, Orchard and Grub Division of the South Plains Food Bank, said.

The fresh produce these volunteers and staffers proved go a long way toward proving meals for families and children who otherwise aren't certain of their next one.
