Rep. Arrington appointed co-chair of Ways and Means Committee Rural Task Force

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Lubbock's Jodey Arrington will lead a Congressional inquiry into rural health care access.

He's now the co-chair of the Rural and Underserved Communities Health Task Force. It's part of his duties on the Revenue Raising Ways and Means Committee. It will focus on the challenges of getting health care to these areas and explore police solutions.

Congressman Arrington said the U.S. relies on rural communities for its food supply and energy independence. So without access to basic health care, those small towns won't be able to support the next generation.

Arrington calls it a crisis pointing to the closing of more than 90 hospitals in rural areas in just three years, including two in the South Plains.

Its first meeting will take place next week.
