Look Around Lubbock: Comic Book SmART Camp

Each year the Lubbock Arts Alliance provides over 400 low income, at-risk and foster children with free visual art, music, and theatre lessons through a dynamic art outreach program called SmART. Taught by professional instructors, the students learn how to read music, play an instrument, the basics of drawing and how to find the courage to stand in front of an audience and speak. This week, the kids at the comic book SmART camp are developing their own superheroes, supervillians and then writing stories about them, creating drawings and comics, and then bringing the characters to life by using costumes and make up.

The Lubbock Arts Alliance is a non-profit organization that works to ensure Lubbock has a vibrant, growing art scene that remains accessible to every member of the community.
