Few isolated storms possible today, much cooler rest of week

LUBBOCK, Texas -

We had some severe storms early this morning in our northeastern counties. These storms continued to push south and diminished in coverage. Current radar below:

TODAY: Mixture of sunshine and clouds with temperatures much cooler than the 103° we had yesterday in Lubbock. High near 92, a slim chance for some pop up showers and storms later this afternoon.

TONIGHT: Into the evening and possible tonight a chance for some storms across the western half of the area. Some models show storms developing in the higher terrain of New Mexico and pushing into our area. These showers and storms could bring some heavy rain and some high wind gusts.

THIS WEEKEND: Highs will stay nice in the lower to mid 90s with lots of sunshine. Although we will likely stay dry, isolated storms can't be ruled out.

NEXT WEEK: Temperatures on the rise with highs in the upper 90s. The ridge of high pressure might weaken some to allow a little better chance for isolated storms by Wednesday.

Have a great Thursday! Matt with the next updated forecast tonight on the News at Nine.
