Residents still picking up Fourth of July trash

LUBBOCK, Texas -

A few times a week, Kimberly Bishop and her kids take a walk to Judge Davies Park. A park that is usually safe, fun, and clean.

"The entire park is just trash," Bishop said.

Burned up fireworks and empty beer cans lined the streets and were spread throughout the grass Monday.

"I had to explain to my kids that people just don't know how to pick up after themselves," Bishop said.

This is not the only spot in town that is still full of debris. There are 81 parks in our city and crews are still working to clean each one.

Bishop and her family decided they would step up. She also recruited help from kids she nannies and her neighbors. She said she believes it is not up to the city to pick up after adults.

"This could have been prevented," Bishop said. "They are not here to clean things that could have been prevented."

Bishop is using this experience as a teaching lesson to her kids.

If you have a park nearby that is still a mess and want to volunteer to clean it up, the city will provide bags.
