One person killed in Lubbock pedestrian crash

 

Update at 2:20 p.m.:

The Department of Public Safety (DPS) and TXDOT will be diverting traffic at the location to investigate the crash starting at 3 p.m. Friday. Find an alternate route and avoid the area if possible.

Original Story at 8:43 a.m.:

One person is dead after a crash on US 62/82 just west of FM 1729. A vehicle hit and killed a pedestrian who was attempting to cross the roadway.

53-year-old Amy Cantu was driving a Honda pickup when it hit 25-year-old Nathaniel Vargas.  

Vargas had just finished extinguishing a small fire, caused by fireworks, in the center median before being hit.  His family has been notified. 

Cantu was not hurt.
