11-year-old injured in accidental shooting in central Lubbock

Just after 10:00 p.m., Lubbock police responded to a report of shots of fired in the 1500 block of 33rd street.

Officers located an 11-year-old who had a gunshot wound. The child was taken by EMS to the hospital with serious injuries. As of this morning, the child is in stable condition.

Officers were advised an eight-year-old found a handgun, which she believed was a toy, and fired the gun.

At this time, the incident appears to be accidental. This case remains under investigation by the Lubbock Police Department Crimes Against Children Unit.
