Rep. Jodey Arrington addresses border security, trade with West Texas constituents

POST, Texas -

Lubbock Congressman Jodey Arrington is making the rounds across West Texas this week, speaking at town halls and addressing questions about issues important to constituents.

Meeting with voters in Post Tuesday afternoon, Rep. Arrington rolled out a message that aligns with President Trump: America First.

Illegal immigration sparked the first debate in the room, amidst humanitarian concerns at the border.

Rep. Arrington said the Trump administration wants to fix the crisis by getting to what he called the root cause of the issue: Security.

He said until democrats come across the aisle to pass legislation, it will be on their hands.

"Are they busting at the seams? Absolutely. We've got to provide the basic services and resources, but we've got to stop this nonsense. We know how to fix it, but we've got folks on the other side of the aisle that don't seem to either care or have the will to do it, and it's making this insanity cycle spin around and around," Rep. Arrington said.

This then prompted citizen discussion on partisan politics.

Rep. Arrington said he welcomes bipartisan work in Congress, but he added he believes democrats are putting their hate of President Trump over common sense legislation for the country.

"I think there's a way where you can have the robust debate, you can defend the traditional American values, rule of law, and Constitution without getting personal," Rep. Arrington said.

The third primary concern voters addressed: The Trump administration's trade policies.

Rep. Arrington said he acknowledges the pressure trade has put on farmers, but he added getting fair deals will make up for it.

"He wants to have a better future for our next generation of farmers and ranchers, but he knows that will only come if we can have a true reset with China," Rep. Arrington said.
