Villa Town Motel remains to be examined for asbestos delaying clean-up

LUBBOCK, Texas -

The remains of what was once a motel is still left for many months to come.

The Villa Town Motel located on 54th and Ave. Q has been a wreckage ever since it caught fire and was torn down last April.

On Thursday, the City of Lubbock was in the process of examining the debris for asbestos fibers. The results from the testing may put a delay on the clean up of the demolition.

The fair and the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce unveiled the end of this nine month renovation Thursday.

The infected remnants will be transported to an asbestos landfill that could take months. The next steps for clearing out the motel will be determined by the results.
