Storms east this evening, hot weekend ahead

Here is current radar:

update 8:22 p.m. - Golf ball-size hail was reported near Justiceburg, which is just west of Lake Alan Henry. Image below shows the severe warning until 8:45, obviously with now potential for 1.75" hail right in the core that's now moving NE of US 84.

posted 8:12 p.m.A few storms have developed well east and south of Lubbock. These are moving to the northeast. A few severe warnings have been issued for gusts of 60 to 70mph and 1" hail. The severe risk is over the Rolling Plains. It should stay dry in Lubbock. Storms will be done by late tonight. Coverage will remain fairly limited.

WEEKEND: Both Saturday and Sunday afternoons will be hot, but not the triple digits like we've had past couple days in Lubbock. Both days will also bring a gusty SW/S wind, slightly stronger Saturday.

We can't rule out isolated storms late both days. But most, if not all, of our area should stay dry.

NEXT WEEK: No big pattern change. It just looks like typical summer heat. Some longer-range guidance shows a few storms may return in the second half of the week, but nothing promising this far out. Average high this time of year is 92, so we should be close to that mark through next week.

Have a great weekend. Robert will have a full update to the forecast here Saturday afternoon.
