Culver selected 6th overall by Timberwolves in 2019 NBA Draft

Updated:
LUBBOCK, Texas -

With the sixth pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, the Minnesota Timberwolves selected Jarrett Culver.

Culver became the third Red Raider drafted in the first round. He followed Zhaire Smith taken 16th in 2018 and Tony Battie who was selected 5th overall in 1997.

The Lubbock native and Coronado kid was part of Texas Tech's history making team that made it to the national championship game and won the Big 12 regular season title.

In the 2018-2019 season he was an All-American and became the first Red Raider to be named Big 12 Player of the Year. As a sophomore, he led the team with 18.5 points, 6.4 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game.

Chris Beard was with Culver and his family in Brooklyn, when his name was called.
