Hobbs man arrested, accused of beating female victim

LEA COUNTY, New Mexico -

On May 22, at approximately 10:53 p.m., Lea County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a reported fight in progress in the area of College Street and Campus Street in Hobbs.

Deputies were unable to locate anyone fighting in the area. Approximately ten minutes later, Deputies were called to the 3100 block of East College Street in reference to a male subject who appeared to have been battered and was highly intoxicated.

The male subject was later identified as Fernando Longoria, 38, of Hobbs. Longoria stated he had been jumped in the street. He identified one male subject and stated he did not know the other.

Deputies later responded to the Lea Regional Hospital in reference to a battered female victim. Deputies learned from the victim that Longoria had repeatedly struck and kicked her in the back of her head and face. Longoria also forced her to remain in his residence by removing all of her clothing.

Longoria has been charged with aggravated battery against a household member, aggravated assault and false imprisonment.

He is currently incarcerated in the Lea County Detention Center. His bond is to be set as his first appearance before the court.
