Chance for storms later today and Tuesday, hotter rest of the week

LUBBOCK, Texas -

A few light showers this morning across the western counties. This activity is moving southeast with only a few locations getting some sprinkles.

TODAY: Highs a little below average nearing 87. Mixture of clouds and sunshine with a light southeast wind 5-15mph. Good moisture will stay in place with dew points in the 50s and 60s with the dry line in New Mexico. Along that dry line storms will develop during the afternoon and push east.

TONIGHT: A 30% chance for storms some of which could produce some larger sized hail and damaging wind. Greater risk for these severe storms will be near the TX/NM border during the evening hours. This activity might continue into the early morning hours of Tuesday. Low near 66 and mostly cloudy.

TUESDAY: We will have to see when this activity ends and what impacts it has on the environment. The dry line will push across our area where another chance for storms to develop will be. If these storms do develop they will likely be strong and severe with damaging hail and wind the main risk. Highs will be warming to the lower 90s with a stronger southeast wind 10-18mph.

EXTENDED: A lower risk for storms through the rest of the week with more sunshine. Friday is the first day of the Summer Solstice and highs will continue to climb to the upper 90s low 100s. Also, the wind will become breezy Friday and stay breezy through the weekend.

Have a great Monday! Matt will have the latest update to the forecast and keep you updated on storms tonight on the News at Nine.
