End of the road for Driver Responsibility Program

More than 634,000 Texans will have their driver's license suspensions lifted in September.

Governor Abbott has ordered the end of the Driver Responsibility Program. It required Texans who were cited for some traffic violations to pay an annual surcharge. This was on top of court fines and criminal penalties to maintain their driver's licenses.

The governor's signature orders the DPS to reinstate any license that's been suspended under this specific program.

DPS data shows 350,000 Texans will get their suspensions lifted with a smaller fee. Nearly 400,000 Texans could get their licenses back after they resolve other problems.
