Lubbock Chamber defends Association Health Plans lawsuit in Washington

LUBBOCK, Texas -

The Lubbock Chamber of Commerce is supporting a lawsuit to give business groups more purchasing power when it comes to health care.

Chamber Vice President Norma Ritz Johnson was part of a group that went to the White House to defend the health plans.

Lubbock's was one of two chambers invited to speak directly to the Secretary of Labor and explain the problem. Johnson said Association Health Plans are a protection against a fault in Obama-Care.

"Small businesses were limited to very few plan choices, and large businesses have a lot more choices. So the Association Health Plan regulations were going to change that, they were going to allow small businesses to band together through organizations like the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce and be able to have more flexibility and more choices rather than a one-size-fits-all type solutions," she said.

The chamber's joined the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in this lawsuit. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and 16 other states are also supporting AHP's.

That case has been expedited in the D.C. Circuit Court.
