UPDATED: Two firefighters airlifted to Lubbock following fireworks explosion in Roswell

ROSWELL, New Mexico -

Just after Noon Wednesday, New Mexico State Police responded to the Roswell Industrial Air Center to reports of a large explosion.

According to police, the Roswell Fire Department was packaging fireworks for the Fourth of July when the explosion occurred. Police report 12 firefighters were inside at the time. 

Two firefighters were air-lifted to UMC in Lubbock with life-threatening injuries. The other ten were treated on-scene for minor injuries. 

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
