Catholic Charities of Lubbock receives grant for Parent Empowerment Program

LUBBOCK, Texas -

The state and city recognized the work the Catholic Charities of Lubbock does. Specifically for parents living in poverty who want to further their education.

As part of a community development block grant, the city granted Catholic Charities of Lubbock more than $350,000. I'ts embarked specifically for the Parent Empowerment Program.

Miranda Mojica is one of hundreds of single parents who have graduated from the program. She moved to Lubbock from Plainview with no family or friends. The Parent Empowerment Program helped put her through nursing school.

"For those single parents, if you're thinking about if you want to do this, it's a game-changer for your kids," she said. "You're now the role model; you tell them this is possible with kids, so it gives them that courage to step up and say 'I need to continue this trend,' because education provides you freedom because it provides you choices."

Services for each family are determined on a case by case basis. Staffers can also refer you to other providers than can help. For more information visit: https://cclubbock.org/parent-empowerment-program
