TXDOT grants City of Lubbock $200,000 to study public transportation needs

LUBBOCK, Texas -

There could be expansive changes coming to the Citibus system over the next few years.

TXDOT has granted the city $200,000 for a comprehensive, clean slate analysis.

City staffers report the city's growth, combined with the Texas Tech student population, makes a new system essential.  They say public transportation will be at the forefront of community planning for years.

The city reports the routes reach less than half of the city's area, about 50 out of more than 120 square miles.

The last analysis was performed in 2013. The most recent "clean slate" study was decades back.
