The Texas Tech Health Sciences Center honored those who have donated their bodies to medical research.
Betsy Jones is the chairman of the medical education department. She says families face a tough decision when they donate to the willed body program.
She describes it as a way for those who have passed to live on, while students learn.
"They have a really intimate relationship with that first patient," Jones said. "It's really important for the students to get closure and I think families to get closure on that process by using this opportunity to thank the families and to recognize the donors on Memorial Day service."
The program describes a family or individual's decision to donate to the program as the most generous gift.
