Troopers identify suspect in shooting in Seagraves

SEAGRAVES, Texas -

Troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety have identified the suspect in the April 29 shooting in Seagraves.

Daniel Ray Garcia, 40, has been charged with attempted capital murder of a police officer. He is currently held in the Gaines County jail. 

Investigators say the incident started as a traffic stop that turned into a brief chase. Garcia and Officer Matthew Zalewski were both injured and taken to UMC. 

Officer Zalewski was released from the hospital the next day.
