Ohio man victimized 8-year-old from Lubbock, sentenced to 30 years

LUBBOCK, Texas -

A man from Ohio who victimized an eight-year-old girl from Lubbock will spend 30 years in federal prison.

Richard Devito, 35, used social media apps to get dozens of pre-pubescant girls, including the victim from Lubbock, to send him sexually explicit photos and videos. Some of the victims were as far away as Australia.

He frequented the apps Musical.ly and ooVoo, popular with pre-teens who like to sing or lip sync to videos.

He only pleaded guilty to one case, the one from Lubbock, but prosecutors say he identified up to 40 other victims. FBI agents discovered 1,300 pages of chats with dozens of victims where Devito faked being a child himself to prey on them.

In some cases, Devito convinced the children to participate in sex acts with other children or family members.

Once Devito serves his 30 year sentence he faces a life-time of supervised release and online monitoring.
