Sunny and breezy today, several days with severe storm potential

LUBBOCK, Texas -

TODAY: A nice day ahead of us across the South Plains with highs in the mid to upper 80s. Southwest/south wind will be much calmer than yesterday, but still breezy 12-22mph.

TONIGHT: Cloud cover will quickly increase overnight with dew points climbing back in the 60s. There will be a chance for showers and storms to develop into the early morning hours. Some of these might be a little stronger with some hail and higher wind gusts.

REST OF THE WEEK: The wind will be stronger Thursday 20-30mph then breezy Friday. We will be between a ridge of high pressure to the southeastern US and a upper level low to the west.

This will leave us with a good amount of moisture with storms initiating along a dry line. We will have the ingredients for these storms to become strong and severe with all the risk including possible tornadoes. Here is the latest Storm Prediction Center outlook for Thursday:

EXTENDED: Another low pressure system will build behind this one along the west coast . This will keep our jet stream the same allowing moisture to stay in place. No big changes for the weekend with the risk for storms continuing. Multiple rounds of storms could bring a flooding risk for the area. Highs will drop to the 70s and low 80s because of the cloud cover and likely hood of rain. Everything looks to change as we get into next week with a ridge of higher pressure and drier air by Tuesday.

Have a great Wednesday! Matt with the latest outlook tonight on the News at Nine.
