Warmer temperatures rest of the week, severe storms possible Friday

LUBBOCK, Texas -

No big changes over the next couple of days besides the warmer temperatures. A ridge of high pressure will be pushing east over the area.

TODAY: High near 87, sunny with a light southwest/south wind 5-15mph.

TONIGHT: Clear sky with the low near 60.

THURSDAY: High warming to the upper 80s with a few 90s possible. Southwest wind a little stronger 10-20mph. There might be a few isolated showers that move into our far western counties from New Mexico later that night.

WEEKEND: Some factors will come into play for potential severe weather Friday afternoon into the early morning hours of Saturday. First we have a strong low pressure system moving along the west coast today, this will push east next few days. Dry line over the area will be a key factor on where storms sill likely develop. We will have an abundance of moisture east of the dry line with dew points in the 60s. Wind speeds will increase and change directions as move up in the atmosphere causing rotation in storms.

If these storms develop Friday the Storm Prediction Center has highlighted our area for storms to produce all factors of severe weather including possible tornadoes.

The low will also bring a strong wind to the are as it ramps up over our region. This will drop a cold front that will cool us down to the lower to mid 80s.

NEXT WEEK: Things are shaping up to have another round of severe storms and strong wind with our next storm system Monday. More details on this as models become in a better agreement...

Have a great day and don't forget the sunscreen if you will be outside. Matt with the next updated forecast tonight on the News at Nine.
