CLOVIS, New Mexico -

Days before his case was scheduled to go to trial, a man pleaded guilty to a child abuse charge in Clovis.

According to District Attorney Andrea Reeb, Jackie Cubit, 32, and his wife got into a fight in November 2017. He threw a glass jar candle at his wife. It missed her but hit their infant daughter in the head.

The baby suffered a subdural hematoma and had to be airlifted to Lubbock for treatment.

Cubit received a sentence of 19 years. This included a one-year enhancement because he was previously convicted of a felony.
